The Australian Grand Prix used to kick off the F1 calendar, but that job now sits with, Bahrain. But never mind that, the Australian Grand Prix draws the Forumla 1 viewing public down under to the famous Melbourne Grand Prix Circuit in Albert Park, Australia, this year sees Australia take the 3rd Grand Prix again after Bahrain and Saudi Arabia.

The Australian Grand Prix will always have a special place in my affections as it's one I've actually attended in person, the only one I've done so. It was back in 1996, the first time the race was held at it's current location at the Albert Park circuit, and I just happened to be in Melbourne as the final race preparations were being made.

Now I have to confess I may be overselling this a little by saying I went to the Grand Prix, but tickets were a little on the pricey side and I was an impoverished backpacker so actually watching the race live was somewhat beyond my means, but back then the circuit was open to the public even in the days leading up to the race (not sure it that will still be the case it today's security conscious age) so myself and a couple of friends went and walked round the circuit, just to be able to say we had been there and done it. We actually returned to Melbourne in 2016 and visited Albert Park once again, a great street circuit right in the middle of a fantastic city.
