The range of venues for the Formula 1 grand prix circuit continue to diversify, with more venues being added on the North American continent in particular, as the citizens of the US show an increasing interest in a variety of motor racing that doesn't just involve going really fast round a simple oval circuit, over and over again (not that NASCAR and their ilk don't have their place in the racing world you understand, just that Formula 1 tends to be a little more, well, subtle!

It would be fair to say however that the Canadians embraced the sport a fair while before their cousins to the south, and there had been a Candian Grand Prix, or Grand Prix du Canada as it's called locally, taking place here since way back in 1961. The venues have varied, moving first from Mosport Park to Circuit Mont-Tremblant then finally on to the current location at the Gilles Villeneuve Circuit (formerly Circuit Ile Notre-Dame) in 1978.

Montreal in June is generally pretty much spot on weather wise so if you're looking for a place to visit that's on the F1 circuit but also a pleasant location for a holiday then this one certainly deserves your consideration. Personally I've yet to visit Canada but I've heard nothing but good things from friends who have, so I'm sure I'll get out there one day, and taking in a grand prix while there would certainly add to the experience.
