Groundhog Day is one of those events that blurs the line between fiction and reality, with many millions of people around the world having watched the movie with Bill Murray there are likely still plenty who don't actually realise that the event the film is based on is actually a very real tradition. Those who do can tune in to watch the Groundhog make his prediction on the free live online stream.

For those not familiar with either the movie or the tradition, then Groundhog Day is based on the weather forecasting abilities of the eponymous groundhog who emerges from his burrow on the 2nd of February each year and either sees his shadow, in which case you're looking at another 6 weeks of winter, or sees no shadow, which in turn signifies and early spring. Sounds even more ridiculous written down, so I'm not going to get into the hows and wheres of how the groundhog communicates this information, all I can say is, if you are still in any doubt, go watch the film!

Punxsutawney Phil is the groundhog made famous in Groundhog Day, and he is the star of the day in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania where he emerges from the fantastically named Gobbler's Knob.
