In a modern festival scene where the lineups tend to be an increasingly homogenous list of the same acts that are currently doing well in the charts and popular with a teenage audience, Download contrinues to plough it's own furrow, refreshingly, with a clear and unabashed focus on rock and heavy metal that has seen great headline performances from the likes of Metallica, Megadeth, Linkin Park, Iron Maiden, Guns N' Roses, Muse, Slipknot and Motorhead.

The Download festival remains unusual in that they have so far resisted providing a live stream of coverage throughout the festival, although there will be videos of the top performances available via their Youtube channel:

There will also be typically be a highlights show screened after the festival, last year this was on Sky Arts, we'll have the details for this year as soon as it's announced.

Hotels and Accommodation

There is camping available at the festival site, but it's very basic, you'll need to bring your own tent and anything else you're likely to need. Camping spaces are usually reserved when buying your tickets - click here for details.

If you're travelling to the Leicestershire area and looking for hotels around Donington Park there is a wide range of accommodation to choose from, but it's advisable to reserve your spot as soon as possible as it does get busy.
