Latest: EDC New York shows no sign of returning for 2018, it may return in 2019. The EDC Las Vegas does however take place earlier this year.

The Electric Daisy Carnival, or EDC as it usually shortened to, is another of the US super-festival franchises that is steadily expanding to take in new venues and become accessible to a much wider audience. Hosted by the now very well known Insomniac Events, the dance music festival has actually been taking place in one form or another since way back in 1997, where it started in LA, California.

The expansion was initially slow - they didn't branch out from Southern California until 2008 when Colorado was added to the venue list, followed by Puerto Rico in 2009, Texas in 2010 and Orlando, Florida and Las Vegas, Nevada in 2011. The New York event was added in 2012, although it was technically in New Jersey that year it did officially become an NYC event in 2013 with the change of location to Citi Field, before later moving again to the MetLife Stadium venue in New Jersey, although in 2016 the EDC NY venue moved once again, back to Citi Field.

The Electric Daisy Carnival is the first of the year's major festivals to make it's way to the north-east corner of the country and reflects the improving weather conditions of late spring in the region. You aren't guaranteed clement conditions by any means, but the chances are significantly improved from just a month earlier. If the weather is a deal breaker for you though then you're probably best to hold out for the Las Vegas event - it'll be hot there for sure!

TV & Live Streaming

With the introduction of a live streaming webcast of the EDC in Las Vegas last year we were optimistic of the same for the EDC NY this year but as the event gets closer there is still no news on the live video stream front.

What there has been however for a few years now is a live radio stream from the New York EDC, provided by Sirius XM and their Electric Area, and we can now confirm that this is returning for 2016 with the live feed broadcast starting at 2pm ET on Saturday.

Please be aware this is a subscription service, but they do offer a 30 day free trial which is well worth considering if you ar only interested in the EDC NY stream:

Insomniac are providing this year an official EDC New York mobile app, which includes a festival map, set times, reviews and loads more.
