Rock in Rio is a bi-annual mega festival that takes place in Rio de Janeiro for a festival taking place over 7 days spread over 2 weekends in early September and will be back in 2024.

Rock in Rio is a music festival event that started, as the name helpfully suggests, in Rio de Janeiro back in 1985 and that has been the main home ever since, although the festival does move location, in particular to the current shared location of Lisbon in Portugal, where it has been taking place on a bi-annual basis since 2004, while in some years there have actially been more than one version of the festival taking place internationally, with the introduction of venues including Madrid and the very first Rock in Rio USA in 2015.

Rock in Rio is one of the biggest festivals anywhere in the world, with attendances of over 1 million recorded at some of the largest previous events, while even in the relatively remote Portugal venue the Rock in Rio Lisbon events have attracted visitor numbers in excess of 350,000.

Dates

The next Rock in Rio is back in 2024. However, the makers of Rock in Rio have created a a brand new festival, The Town, to be held in Sao Paulo, so I thought I'd add it here in the interim.

The line up for the first festival of The Town 2023 includes:

2nd September: Post Malone, Demi Lovato, Iggy Azalea,

3rd September: Bruno Mars, Bebe Rexha Alok, Luisa Sonza

7th September: Maroon 5, The Cahinsmokers, Liam Paynes, Ludmilla.

9th September: Foo FIghters, Queens of the Stone Age, Garbage, Pitty

10th September: Bruno Mars, H.E.R., Kim Petras, Iza
