Boasting some top name performenrs, the Sziget festival is another central European mega-festival that I have to confess I hadn't heard of until a few years ago. We went to Budapest a few years ago now and loved it - it was when checking out accommodation costs for our trip there that I noticed the sudden spike in prices for a week at the start of August and wondered what was going on.
A couple of minutes on Google showed me the reason right away - it was Sziget festival week.
Considering I now know it's actually been taking place every year since 1993 and boasts a record attendance of almost 400,000, making it one the biggest music festivals anywhere in the world, then this was something of an embarrassing oversight for me.
I'm fully aware of it now though, and with an impressive lineup, fabulous location and a festival vibe that has been likened to the famous Burning Man in the United States then Sziget now sits firmly on the bucket list, right alongside Budapest!
Sziget 2023 will be held on 10 -15 August.
The lineup for the Sziget festival is as extensive as you might expect with so many days to fill.
This year sees performances from: Billie Eilish, David Guetta, Florence + The Machine, Imagine Dragons, Lorde, Macklemore, Mumford & Sons, Sam Fender, Niall Horan, Yungblud, Foals, Bonobo, Diplo, Jamie xx, Tale of Us, girl in red, Caroline Polachek, Yung Lean, Loyle Carner, Arlo Parks, M83, Moderat, Sven Vath, Jeff Mills, Mimi Webb, Nothing But Thieves, AJR, Two Feet, A**gra Boys, Amyl And The Sniffers, Sleaford Mods, Franks Carter & The Rattlesnakes, Adam Beyer, Dixon, Reiner Zonneveld Live, Ben Bohmer live, SG Lewis, Mochakk, TroiBoi, The Comet Is Coming, 070 Shake, Uncle Waffles, TV Girl, Baby Queen, Giant Rooks, Lazza, Easy Life, I Hate Models, Kobosil, 999999999, Confidence Man, The Aces, Youngr, Los Bitchos, Destroy Boys, Son Mieux and many many more
