New York St Patrick's Day Parade
Mardi Gras in Lafayette has the distinction of being the second largest mardi gras parade in Louisiana, coming only behind the huge major event in New Orleans in terms of scale. The history of mardi gras in Lafayette can be traced way back to 1869, while attendance at the modern mardi gras day events has been estimated at a quarter of a million!
The parades are only a part of the mardi gras festivities in Lafayette, however, with the town hosting a series of Krewes, balls, street parties and festivals in the weeks leading up to Fat Tuesday, culminating in the main Mardi Gras Festival Parade on the day itself.
