During Tenerife Carnival, or Carnival of Santa Cruz de Tenerife to provide the full title, you have to take to the streets to immerse yourself in the huge mardi gras event which is held in the capital of the popular Canary Island of Tenerife.

The carnival can trace it's history as far back as the early 17th Century, making this one of the oldest carnival events anywhere in the world, and attracts huge numbers of visitors, with attendance measured in the hundreds of thousands. The most popular events at the Tenerife Carnival are the Election of the Queen, which is televised live to the nation and of course the Grand Finale parade on mardi gras Tuesday itself.

The Carnival for 2024, themes "La Television" is scheduled to take place between 12th January and 18th February with the main celebrations:
