The Barcelona Marathon, currently sponsored by Zurich Marato and known locally as the Marathon Catalunya has been taking place since 1978 and has grown over the years to the current event which attracts an estimated 17,000 participants.

The marathon in Barcelona enjoys one of the more scenic courses in the world, taking in such iconic sights as the Magic Fountain at Montjuic Park, the Camp Nou Stadium (I saw Newcaslte play here in the Champion's League many years ago, it's an epic sight!), the Sagrada Familia and the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau. The race is followed by a free pasta party, which only adds to the appeal!

Marathon Date

The Barcelona marathon in 2024 is scheduled to take place on 10th March.

Start Time

The race gets underway at 8.30am. There are expected to be over 17,000 runners participating.

Marathon Course Details

The race gets underway at 8.30am, at its new starting point of Passeig de Gracia and will finish at the Arc de Triomf. This new route will also include at keast 15 of the cities iconic points as you run through the city center.
