The Hamburg marathon, which is currently known under sponsorship as the Haspa Marathon Hamburg has been taking place in the spring each year since its inception in 1986 and is one of the larger marathons in Germany, with over 20,000 athletes taking part.

The marathon has a circular route around some of the most well known sights and scenery of this large city, with both the start and finish lines located at the CCH Hamburg Congress Center.

The marathon has attracted many different sponsors over the year, including well known names such as Shell, Elastoplast and Olympus, but is currently covered by Hamburger Sparkasse, a local bank known colloquially as Haspa, who have been officially supporting the event since 2012.

The Hamburg marathon this year is scheduled for Sunday 23rd April 2023.

Event Details

The race gets underway at 9.30am from the Hamburg Congress Center and takes in many of the city's most notable sights, including:

- The Reeperbahn
- Elbchaussee
- Elbe Philharmonic Hall
- Alster river
- Stadtpark
- The Witches Cauldron, Eppendorfer Baum
- Rotherbaum district
