The Hong Kong marathon, currently sponsored by
Standard Chartered bank, is one of the earliest races on
the annual marathon calendar, taking place in February
each year since it’s establishment in 1997, replacing
the Hong Kong-Shenzhen Marathon that took place in the
1980’s and early 1990’s.
The current event has
expanded over the years and now also includes a half
marathon, a 10k race and both 3km and 10km wheelchair
races. A rare feature of the Hong Kong marathon is that
it actually includes a section of the course that takes
you well underground – participants are 30 metres below
sea level when passing through the Western Harbour
Tunnel.
There are staggered start times for the main marathon:
6.10am: Elite runners
6.35am: Marathon wave 1
7.00am: Marathon
wave 2
The start line for the marathon is located at Nathan
Road in Tsim Sha Tsui, and the route then proceeds as follows:
West Kowloon Highway
Stonecutter Bridge
Nam Wan Tunnel
Tsing Ma Bridge
North West Tsing Yi Interchange
Ting Kau
Bridge
Tsing Kwai Highway
Western Harbour Tunnel
Connaught
road West Flyover
Finish line at Victoria Park, Causeway
Bay.

There has been live streaming online coverage of the Hong Kong
marathon in previous years, we will post any links to this year’s
race here as and when we find them.
Last year the event also
had an excellent social sharing facility, enabling you to keep track
of friends and family you may know participating in the marathon:

If you're in Hong Kong for the marathon then you'll have no shortage of accommodation to choose from. Although February is one of the quieter months that doesn't mean you can afford to leave it late though, it's pretty much always busy in Hong Kong!
You can check out availability and make online reservations for local hotels here.
