The Madrid marathon is one of the largest European marathons. The
Madrid Marathon has been taking place in late April each year since
1978 and will celebrate it's 45th anniverary whilst welcoming around
39,000 athletes to this year's event. The character of
the event changed somewhat in 2011 with the addition of the Zurich Rock n Roll
sponsorship, the first of this marathon series to take place outside
of the United States, and transforming the event officially into the
Zurich
Rock 'n' Roll Running Series Madrid Marathon or in Spanish, Maraton de Rock n Roll Madrid.
In common with other events in the Rock n Roll series the marathon day
now also includes a number of other races taking place concurrently,
including a half marathon and a 10k race,
making up an entire day of top level athletic entertainment. There
will also be over 30 entertainment stages and stations located along
the route for an incredible day!
The Zurich Rock 'n' Roll Running Series Madrid Marathon in 2023 will take place on Sunday 23rd April.
The main events on marathon day in Madrid starts at the Paseo de
la Castellana as follows:
