The Southern 500 is another of the major NASCAR annual races, taking place each year since 1950 and typically drawing a sellout crowd to the Darlington Raceway venue in South Carolina.

The race has taken place under a number of different sponsors, previously including the likes of Heinz, Mountain Dew, Pepsi, Doge, GoDaddy and Showtime, but as of 2020 the sponsor is Cook Out, making this officially the Cook Out Southern 500.

The race is known as one of the more difficult races on the circuit thanks in no small part to the unusual shape of the track, which has something of an egg shape in contrast to the typical regular oval - this means drivers have to be on their mettle even more than usual and adds an extra element of excitemnt for those watching in the stands and on TV at home.

The race date this year is Sunday 3rd September 2023 at 6pm (ET).

TV & Live Streaming

The main TV broadcaster for the NASCAR Cup Series continues to be NBC Sports, and you can watch this online via their live stream service, although there is of course a subscription required:
