New York St Patrick's Day Parade
When it comes to tennis, and the "Big 4" tournaments that make up the traditional Grand Slam then there are bigger and more glamorous events on the calendar, but when it comes to history and tradition then nowhere can come close to Wimbledon, the iconic venue on the outskirts of London that has been taking place since way back in 1877, making it by far the oldest tournament in the world.
When you see interviews with players talking about which is the most prestigious tournament, and which they would most like to win if they could only choose one, then the majority will always reply with Wimbledon. There may be far bigger crowds at the finals of the US Open and Australian Open in particular, but it seems winning at the historical home of tennis still comes up trumps.
I have visited the Wimbledon courts in the past, but now when the tournament was actually on I'm afraid, and ticket prices these days means that watching it on the TV or online is likely to remain my only option. I did actually have the chance to apply work the championships way back in my student days, helping with the covers etc, which on reflection was a chance I probably should've taken.
Wimbledon in 2023 will take place 3rd - 16th July.
The seedings for 2023 have Novak Djokovic at number 1, followed by Carlos Alcaraz (2), Stefanos Tsitsipas (3), Daniil Medvedev (4), Casper Ruud (5), Andrey Rublev (6) Felix Auger-Aliassime (7), Holger Rune (8), Jannik Sinner (9) and Taylor Fritz at number 10 for the Gentlemen's Singles.
For the Ladies Singles we have Iga Swiatek at number 1, followed by Aryna Sabalenka (2), Jessica Pegula (3), Caroline Garcia (4), Ons Jabeur (5), Coco Gauff (6), Elena Rybakina (7), Daria Kasatkina (8), Maria Sakkari (9) and Petra Kvitova at number 10.
