Ironman Australia 2023

Live Stream, Route, Start Time, Race Entry

The event Ironman Australia officially and takes place in Port Macquarie in New South Wales, located around 400km north of Sydney, which sounds a long way but on an Australian scale is pretty much just around the corner. This isn't to be confused with the newly added Melbourne Ironman or indeed the triathlon in Busselton, WA, which is officially the Western Australia Ironman, and actually slightly the more popular event despite it's remote location.

I have actually visited Port Macquarie back in my backpacking days - it was one of the first stops on my road trip from Sydney to Cairns (which eventually headed as far north as Darwin and south to Adelaide before looping back to NSW and Sydney - happy memories!) and as the winter weather was just setting in we didn't hang around for long. My memory is of a perfectly pleasant, typically Australian coastal town, with beaches that anywhere else in the world would be regarded as absolutely epic, but in this part of eastern Australia are just about average.

I had no idea back in those days that Port Macquarie even hosted and Ironman, an a quick check of the records shows it actually started the same year I visited so I'm a little disappointed I didn't get to cross it off the bucket list. Just means I'll have to go back there one day I guess, which is no hardship!

Course and Schedule

The next Iron Man is scheduled for the 7th May 2023.

IRONMAN Australia offers Men's and Women's Age Group Qualifying slots to the VinFast Ironman World Championship, which for Men, will be in Nice, France on 10th September 2023 and for Women 14th October in Kailua-Kona Hawaii.

The Australian Ironman takes place over the usual full triathlon distance of 3.8km swim, 180.2km bike ride and a run of 42.2km.

The swim starts from the Short Street car park and includes 2 laps along the Hastings River route.

The bike course is again over 2 laps, and covers:

- Port Macquarie town centre

- Pacific Drive

- Ocean Drive

- Bonny Hills

- Camden Haven

- Laurieton

- Donbogan

The run is over 4 laps:

- Start at bike compound

- Settlement Point

- Town Centre

- Town Beach

- Finish line on Town Green

TV & Live Streaming

You might be able to catch some local coverage on TV of this race on the Nine Network if they show it this year..
