Ironman European Championship 2023

The number of triathlons taking place annually worldwide has continued to increase over the years, and on the European Ironman circuit the addition of new venues has increased to the stage where the continent can now justify their own official championship event - hence the birth of the Ironman European Championships.

In recent years this event has become synonymous with the Frankfurt venue as it's host, and this is where the crowds and competitors alike are now drawn to try and prove themselves the best on the larger stage. On a global scale the Ironman World Championship in Hawaii is without doubt the most prestigious and the one all the triathletes would like to win, but this one now runs in a pretty close second.

In total over 2500 athletes take place in the event, with typically in excess of 50 different nations represented. The impressive backdrop of the picturesque Langener Waldsee lake, the Frankfurt city skyline and the banks of the River Main only add to the appeal, with plenty of places for the crowds, which will number in the tens of thousands, to gather.

The 2023 Ironman European Championship in Frankfurt will take place on 2 July.

Course and Schedule

The course for the Frankfurt Ironman is one of the most challenging on the circuit, as is befitting the Championship level event. It runs as follows:

Swim:

The swimming section of the course takes place in the famous Langener Waldsee, a lake located 12kn south of Frankfurt. There are 2 circuits around different sections of the lake.

Cycle:

Travels through downtown Frankfurt and the surrounding countryside. Highlights include:

Maintal-Hochstadt

Bad Vilbel

Run:

Follows the River Main, which runs through the centre of Frankfurt. 4 loops of the circuit.
