The Memorial Hermann Texas Ironman is arguably the largest of the triathlon events held in the United States, and attracts large crowds of spectators as well as high numbers of participants, with places in the Ironman World Championships final up for grabs at Kailua - Kona in Hawaii for women and Nice, France for the men, it's the ultimate Ironman event. For anyone not confident in completing the full triathlon, there is also a 70.3 event held each year in Texas, at Galveston on 2nd April.
The Woodlands area that hosts the event is located not far north of the city of Houston, within easily commutable distance in fact, so if you're planning on attending this one you won't have any problems finding some suitable accommodation - Houston caters to pretty much any taste and budget.
As to the race conditions, Texas in May is just starting to warm up nicely but you're still far enough out from summer to hopefully not have to worry about excessive heat, although the athletes taking part might prefer it just a little cooler! You're likely to have clear skies and warm temperatures though, it really is one of the best times of year to be visiting this part of Texas, and The Woodlands area, especially around the lake, has some fantastic scenery to enjoy, as well as plenty of quiet spots if you just want some peace and quiet away from watching the race.
The Ironman event at The Woodlands in Texas in 2023 will take place on 22nd April.
The Texas Ironman is centred on the Woodlands area, and covers the following regions:
Swim:
- Enter Lake Woodlands at Northshore Park, exit at the transition area at Town Green Park
Bike:
- A single loop course going out along the Woodlands Parkway and returning via Flintridge Drive
